I love teaching seventh-grade life science! I started here at Olson in 1994 and I'm really proud to be part of the OMS family. Great students and awesome colleagues make every school year something special! I partner with Mrs. Dettmann (Team 7-1) and Mr. Norsten (Science Teacher At Large) to create and deliver our Flexible-Learning Life Science course. OMS7 Science has been a hybrid flipped model for the last several years, meaning that most of the "homework" will be an online presentation of material and "classroom work" will concentrate on practice and activity. Students are expected to access a short lesson as homework and demonstrate primary understanding of the material as preparation for the classroom activity. Flipped Instruction basically allows kids to access instruction outside of the classroom, in a SPACE and TIME that works best for them. Flexible Learning takes Flipped Instruction to a new level, allowing kids to move through the instruction at their own PACE and even following a PATH of their own choosing. The work listed on my Canvas page will be easily accessible the Hub.
Note: In the Distance Learning model, our work is very similar to what we normally do in the classroom, without group interactions and lab skill development. While Distance Learning we will focus on making connections between students. Lab experiences are likely to be virtual during Distance Learning, but we will revisit points when classroom learning resumes.
